Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Khunti, is located at village Diyankel, Torpa block, of the Khunti district with an area is 49.19 acres. The foundation of KVK Khunti, the 23rd<\/sup> KVK of Jharkhand, was laid by the then Secretary DARE and Director General of ICAR, Dr. S. Ayyapan, on May 5, 2014, and since then it is under the administrative control of ICAR-NISA, Ranchi. Khunti is a newly created district in 2007, has six blocks viz. Khunti, Torpa, Murhu, Rania, Arki and Karra. The main attraction of the district is the village Ulihatu, which is the birthplace of the Indian tribal independence activist, and folk hero, Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Khunti is spread over an area of 2611 sq. km with a population of 5.32 lakhs. Nagpuri and Mundari are common languages.

To implement the mandate effectively, the following activities are envisaged for KVK<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. On-farm testing (OFT) to assess the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.<\/li>\n
  2. Frontline demonstrations to establish the production potential of technologies on the farmers\u2019 fields.<\/li>\n
  3. Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies.<\/li>\n
  4. To work as a Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private, and voluntary sectors in improving the agricultural economy of the district.<\/li>\n
  5. Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In addition, KVKs produce quality technological products (seed, planting material, bio-agents, and livestock) and make them available to farmers, organize frontline extension activities, identify and document selected farm innovations, and converge with ongoing schemes and programs within the mandate of KVK.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
